CYS Concerto Competition Winners

We are incredibly proud of three students who won 1st, 2nd, AND 3rd place for the 2022-23 Carolina Youth Symphony Concerto Competition. "Concertos" are considered very difficult to play and usually we reserve giving concertos to the very best students. We are lucky to have a studio that allows for two pianos to rehearse the concertos.

Here are the winners of the 34th CYS Concerto Competition. PIANO DIVISION: 1st Place: Zhanshuo Zhang, piano, of Greer, South Carolina, 11th grade, Riverside High School, is a student of Lisa Kiser, of Greenville, SC. Zanshuo performed Tchaikovsky’ Piano Concerto No.1 in Bb minor, Op.23: Mvt 1. 2nd Place: Andrew Ning, piano, of Greer, South Carolina, 9th grade, Riverside High School, is a student of Lisa Kiser of Greenville, SC. Andrew performed Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op 16, Mvt 1. 3rd Place: Henry Sun, piano, of Greer, South Carolina, 11th grade, Riverside High School, is a student of Lisa Kiser of Greenville, SC. Henry performed Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor, Op.16, Mvt. 1

Zhanshuo (Jason) Zhang (pictured below with Ms. Lisa) will perform Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto no. 1, the first movement with CYS at Furman University on March 5th. Tickets here
