Two second piano concertos by two Tchaikovksy(s). The first is a pretty decent work by Andre Tchaikowsky who was famous among theatre crowds for donating his skull to the Royal Shakespeare Company. We’ll hear Radu Lupu playing it in the 70s and speaking about it.
Then we will hear an ancient recording from 1946 of Cherkassky playing the first movement of the Siloti version of the Tchaikovsky’s G major concerto, his second and one of my favorites (not the best review of this particular recording as you can see below):
The last couple shows have featured landlers and waltzes and German dances from Pierre Laurent Aimard’s new Schubert Album: https://www.pentatonemusic.com/schubert-landler-selected-as-one-of-the-best-classical-albums-of-2024-by-the-times/
Have a musical week -- David
